In this project, I worked with the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth (USAY) to develop an educational poster for their project Della’s Story. Della’s Story is an interactive virtual escape room aimed at educating participants on the Sixties Scoop. The poster is intended to be shown to potential funders for the project, and needed to describe the project, the Sixties Scoop, the benefits of gamified education, and the success and benefits of the project. This poster was also an exercise in layout design and information architecture.

Design Process

Research & Planning

The very first step of this project was to actually participate in USAY’s Della’s Story escape room. Our class completed the virtual escape room together, which not only gave us a better sense of what the project was, but also provided us with data to use in our poster designs in the form of survey responses from the class.

After this, I began to think about other information and data that would be useful to include in my poster, what visual form that should take, where in the overall story of the poster it should sit, and what kind of research I needed to do to find that information.

Once that research was complete, I began sketching layout options for the design of the poster.

Poster design rationale and final critique before the final design was sent to USAY.

This is the final design for my educational infographic poster. The final layout changed slightly from any of the sketches I had produced due to the amount of information I ended up including as well as feedback from my peers and instructor.

I designed all of the infographics/graphs in Illustrator, and designed the rest of the layout and text in Indesign.
